Connecting a laptop to a projector and displaying screen on whiteboard or TV.

Connecting your laptop to a projector is a common task at Liberty Union. In the future this task will become even more common. Listed below are instructions on how to connect your laptop to the projector and projecting the screen image to your smartboard or external screen.

The first thing you will need to do is connect the RGB cord to the laptop and the projector. Your laptop will have a port in the rear or on the side of the laptop.  Connect a VGA cable to the connector located on the wall.

You will then need to turn the laptop on first followed by the projector/TV. The projector/TV will automatically search for a signal. If there is no signal or the laptop screen does not appear follow the instructions below.

First check the source of the TV/Projector.  If using a TV, such as in the conference rooms, the source should be PC/Computer.

With each manufacture there are different key sequences. You also have options on how you want the screen displayed. The options are laptop only, projector only, or projector and laptop.
If you are using an ACER laptop the key sequence is the function key (FN) and the F5 key. There should be an image on the F5 key that looks like two monitors. You need to press the F5 key three (3) times while holding down the function key to project the image on the laptop and the projector. You will notice that an image will appear in the middle of the screen that shows the different options for your connection to a projector.
If you are using an IBM or Lenovo laptop the key sequence is the function key (FN) and the F7 key. As with the Acer you need to hold down the function key and press the F7 key until the image is displayed on both the laptop screen and the projector. An image will appear in the middle of the screen as you select the different options.

If you are using a Dell laptop the key sequence is the function key (Fn) and the F8 key. Just as the others you will need to hold down the Function key and the press the F8 key until the option you want is selected. Just as the others an image will be displayed to show you the options that are available for selection.
